Book #2-#5 - The rest of the Nicholas Flamel Series

I decided to wait and post about the rest of the series all at once. I finished The Magician, The Sorceress, The Necromancer and The Warlock, all by Michael Scott. These books pick up where the Alchemyst left off and we continue to follow Josh and Sophie, the twins of destiny. The second and third books were a little slow, but the series picks up in The Necromancer and The Warlock. Although I have enjoyed the series, I wouldn't have attended midnight release parties for these books. I'm not sure that I would have read the entire series had they not already been published, although I am glad that I didn't give up on them.

I give The Magician and The Sorceress 3 stars, and The Necromancer and The Warlock 4 stars.

The Alchemyst: The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel by Michael Scott

Okay, the first book is done. The rest should be a piece of cake. This was a series that I had been reluctant to start because I was afraid that it would be too similar to some of the other fantasy/mythology/adventure series that have been published recently. I'm glad a few of my students talked me into reading it anyway. I really enjoyed it and give it a 4 out of 5.

This is the first in a series about Nicholas Flamel and the "twins of destiny" vs. the evil Dr. Dee. As the twins find out that Nicholas Fleming is really Nicholas Flamel their world is turned upside down. They are told that they have supernatural abilities and are introduced to creatures from all of classical mythology(Greek, Egyptian, Scottish, Irish, etc.) Their quest is to rescue a magical book that was stolen by Dr. Dee, and of course save the world in the process. If you liked the Percy Jackson books and the Kane Chronicles series, you will love this series too. I highly recommend it.
